Equality & Diversity Services Launch

The event to launch the new equality and diversity company that was today launched by  two of the North East’s leading experts on  equality and discrimination. Liaquat Latif and Samantha Latif who head the newest company in the North east are both experts in their own right already.

This was a huge step in the right direction for equality and diversity today. Equality and Diversity Services Ltd who are a new and innovative organisation were overwhelmed by the interest shown from local authorities attending the event .

The Government’s  launch of the Equalities Bill White paper 26th June 2008 was highlighted by all speakers as being crucial to the launch of this new equality training provider which has is on the pulse of current legislation and the single Equalities bill that effects all Public Authorities e.g. Local Authorities, police, health authorities etc. Representatives from many local authorities, local businesses, the legal profession and local community attended the launch.
Main speaker Sadiq Khan MP Government Minister and Whip  for the Justice Department said; “Making our society more equal is better for individuals who would otherwise be discriminated against, our society who are more at ease with ourselves and our economy .  The launch of Equality and diversity Services Ltd couldn’t come at a more appropriate time.  We have launched the Equalities Bill White Paper this week and it’s in everyone’s interest for local authorities and other employees to start planning now for its implementation.

Jim Cousins MP for Newcastle said “ Equality affects all of us.  This venture comes at an important time.  As someone over the age of 60, I see for myself the way older citizens are sometimes treated.  Good training  can help us change these negative attitudes.”

Anne Railton NCFE Sector Leader of Accreditation. “  EDS Ltd have a fresh and different approach to Equality issues. It was a great pleasure formally accrediting EDS Ltd for their courses. They are providing a unique service that is the first of its kind.  I’m proud of the part NCFE have played in this pioneering venture.  I look forward to working with them and Local authorities for years to come.”

Samantha Latif (BSc) Director of EDS Ltd and Head of Centre said “I have been overwhelmed by the huge interest shown. Equality issues affects everyone single one of us. Our team continues to grow and I am sure we can meet the needs of local authorities in the region. It is not a coincidence that the Government has announced their new policy in the same week we launched. All local authorities need to be on top of current changes if they are properly to meet the needs of the communities they serve. My message to them is don’t be frightened of the new Equalities legislation. Just like the Government has a fresh approach to tackling inequalities, Our training is a fresh approach; We are here to help.”

Award winning solicitor and co Director of EDS Ltd, Liaquat Latif (LLB(Hons)) said “We are not like other equality training providers. We don’t play lip service towards equalities issues. We walk the walk and talk the talk. Our personal experiences in this area of law over the last 20 years means that we understand the equality issues local authorities face on all levels”
